Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski inaugurated a new private cogeneration plant in North Macedonia, designed to produce both electricity and heat for residential use. The Prime Minister emphasized that the facility utilizes gas engines and automation to improve energy efficiency and reduce harmful air particle emissions, noting the project is particularly significant ahead of the upcoming winter season. Details regarding the project indicate that Tessa Energy commissioned the plant at the former Skopje Sever thermal power plant with an initial investment of 2.5 million euros. The facility includes two high-efficiency gas generators capable of producing 2.1 megawatts of electricity and 2.6 megawatts of thermal energy, serving the Chair and Butel municipalities. The use of natural gas is intended to lower production costs, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and provide a more stable energy supply for local households and institutions. Technical specifications show the plant achieves an overall energy utilization rate of up to 90%. Residual heat from electricity production is transferred to the Energy Ecolink system to provide hot water for approximately 500 households and 14 institutions. Company manager Ajri Shej noted this is the first phase of a larger plan, with a second phase expected to involve an additional 10 million euros to transform the site into a modern energy center with a planned capacity expansion to 10.5 MW. Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski stated the government would support such investments by streamlining administrative procedures to facilitate the green transition. Energy Minister Sanja Božinovska added that the new capacity strengthens national energy security, economic stability, and resilience against volatile global market prices.
