Following a 1-2 start to the 2026 season, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye faced scrutiny due to seven total turnovers in his first three games. During that period, Maye led the league with six interceptions and one lost fumble, leading to speculation regarding a lingering right shoulder injury sustained during a Week 3 loss to the Jaguars. Despite early struggles and rumors of a rift between Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel—both of which were dismissed by the parties involved—Maye delivered a standout performance in Week 4. Leading the Patriots to a 29-26 road victory over the undefeated Buffalo Bills, Maye threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns, earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Under offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, the Patriots' offense has seen a significant surge. The team's scoring average rose from 12.0 points per game in the first three weeks to 37.0 points per game over the following two contests. Maye’s individual production has also increased, with his passing yards per game rising from 195.0 to 321.5. In Week 5, Maye accounted for nearly 400 yards of total offense and five total scores, though the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor was instead awarded to Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren. In Week 6, the Patriots secured a 26-19 victory over the New York Jets at Gillette ~~Stadium.~~ Stadium, extending their winning streak to three games and improving their record to 4-2.
