The New Taipei City mayoral election between Kuomintang candidate Li Sichuan and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Su Chiao-hui has become increasingly competitive, marked by conflicting polling data and allegations of political misconduct. While Li Sichuan leads Su Chiao-hui by 6.7 percentage points in overall polling, he faces challenges in the key swing district of Banqiao, where he trails by approximately 7 points, and among voters under 40. Li has responded by emphasizing his municipal experience and a platform of over 20 specific policy proposals. To discuss urban governance, Li met with Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang to discuss regional development, including MRT planning and child-friendly infrastructure models. Kuomintang candidate Lee Shih-kwan criticized the Control Yuan for a perceived “double standard,” calling for an investigation into Su Chiao-hui’s sister, Su Chiao-chun. Su Chiao-hui denied the allegations, stating that authorities have already clarified the matter and noting that her sister was not responsible for the application nor an employee of the company. Su further suggested the accusations are politically motivated, remarking, “Elections really don't need to be like this.” A new dispute has arisen regarding Li Sichuan’s proposal to create an AI high-tech industry corridor intended to connect local talent with major tech hubs like NVIDIA. During a council session, DPP legislator Li Yu-dian criticized the stance, questioning if facilitating such connections constituted “selling people” or “human trafficking,” drawing comparisons to incidents in Cambodia. Li Sichuan defended the policy, stating it aims to use transportation infrastructure to provide young people with international high-tech opportunities.
