Hochul frequently accused Blakeman of attempting to bring “Trump-style leadership to Albany,” while Blakeman criticized Hochul’s record regarding high energy costs and the state’s economic standing. The encounter debate also involved heated exchanges regarding featured intense clashes over immigration and public safety. Blakeman criticized Hochul’s sanctuary state policies, specifically citing a recent shooting of a Dominican national in the Bronx. He contrasted her approach with his own record in Nassau County, where he has maintained cooperative agreements with ICE to remove migrants with criminal records. Issues of antisemitism also dominated the exchange. Blakeman labeled New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani; Blakeman labeled the mayor Mamdani an “antisemite” and due to his executive orders regarding the definition of antisemitism, calling the mayor a political liability for the governor.
