New York quantum technology development
Overview
New York is expanding its presence in the quantum technology sector through significant public and private investments. In mid-October 2026, New York City and New York University announced a $284 million public-private partnership to establish the Quantum Fabrication Facility (QFab) in Manhattan. Scheduled to open in 2030, the facility is designed to support over 100 companies and incubate approximately 50 startups by providing specialized equipment for building and testing quantum devices.
Following this, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $360 million state investment aimed at accelerating the commercialization of quantum research and driving economic growth. A state-commissioned study highlighted New York as the second-ranked state nationally in quantum-related businesses, research groups, and patent families, trailing only California. The state possesses capabilities across the entire quantum value chain, including assets such as Brookhaven National Laboratory and various research hubs in the Capital Region and Finger Lakes.
