NHTSA investigations into General Motors vehicle defects

Simultaneously, the NHTSA has escalated its investigation into the eBoost electronic brake-by-wire system to an engineering analysis, affecting more than 1.1 million vehicles. This includes electric models produced in alliance with Honda and Acura, as well as internal combustion models like the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and various Buick models. While GM acknowledged a hardware flaw involving a metallic spindle susceptible to fracture, investigators are examining consumer reports of an immediate loss of brake assist while in motion. Specifically, 2023 Cadillac Lyriq owners have reported ‘rock-hard’ brake pedals and ‘Brake System Failure’ warnings, which increase stopping distances and contradict GM’s assertion that secondary safety systems remain functional until the vehicle stops.
