In late July 2026, Nicaragua’s Ministry of Health (MINSA) combined a community‑based addiction‑recovery program with a localized dengue‑prevention effort in the Niños Mártires de Ayapal neighbourhood of Managua, visiting 270 homes and reaching over 1,300 residents. A week later, MINSA expanded its vector‑control campaign across Managua, treating 1,069 homes in the Unidad de Propósito neighbourhood and deploying more than 100 Leko units, 2,000 thermo‑nebulizers and larvicide tablets. The effort now also targets Zika and chikungunya, with a broader network of health brigades, midwives and volunteers supporting nationwide early detection and treatment of mosquito‑borne diseases.
