Nicaragua has initiated efforts to bolster its tourism and regional connectivity. The Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) launched the ‘Diciembre en Nicaragua’ strategy, a campaign designed to promote cultural, traditional, and religious offerings during the holiday season. The initiative targets both domestic travelers and international visitors, highlighting destinations such as León, San Juan del Sur, Ometepe Island, and Granada. In tandem with these promotional efforts, the government is expanding physical infrastructure. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) scheduled the inauguration of a 16-kilometer highway connecting San Nicolás, La Estanzuela, and Estelí. This project is intended to improve mobility for approximately 19,000 people, support the agricultural sector by facilitating goods transport, and strengthen local tourism by providing better access to natural attractions. On October 14, 2026, the government proceeded with the inauguration of the San Nicolás – La Estanzuela – Estelí highway. Vice President Rosario Murillo stated that the project aims to “improve road communication between communities and enhance the quality of life for local producers and families by dynamizing the regional economy.” Furthering its international outreach, INTUR and 17 national companies participated in the Central America Travel Market (CATM 2026) in Guatemala to promote national destinations and establish commercial ties. Additionally, the country is expanding its presence in sports and culture, with plans to host the Latin American Supercross Championship and the Central American Freestyle X-Night in December 2026, and the 15th edition of Nicaragua Diseña in late October to showcase national fashion and entrepreneurship.
