U Cluj Cluj, FCSB, and FCSB Craiova compete for Nicolae Stanciu

Universitatea Cluj is working to finalize the transfers of Romanian internationals Nicolae Stanciu and Andrei Burcă to bolster its SuperLiga title ambitions. Andrei Burcă, a 33-year-old central defender currently with Yunnan Yukun, has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to return to Romania following the expiration of his Chinese contract in December. Negotiations for 33-year-old midfielder Nicolae Stanciu, currently with Dalian Yingbo, have intensified. While Universitatea Cluj president Radu Constantea has confirmed advanced discussions, he clarified that no official contract has been signed. The club is leveraging stability and Stanciu’s desire to be near his home region as primary selling points. Former teammate Raul Rusescu suggested the player might favor the Cluj-based side due to its proximity to his home. Competition for the Romanian national team captain has escalated with FCSB’s involvement. FCSB official Mihai Stoica previously stated the matter was “more than 75% resolved,” and new coach Laurențiu Reghecampf has expressed strong interest in Stanciu’s quality. FCSB owner Gigi Becali has since claimed to have personally contacted the player. In response to the competing interest, Constantea has urged that discussions regarding a potential transfer wait until after Stanciu completes his upcoming four matches with the national team, emphasizing the need for the player to remain focused on international duties. Stanciu is expected to become a free agent at the end of the year following the conclusion of the Chinese season. Competition for Stanciu’s signature has expanded to include Universitatea Craiova. The club has reportedly entered negotiations, potentially using funds from their UEFA Conference League participation to approach or match Stanciu’s current net annual salary of approximately one million euros. While owner Mihai Rotaru declined to comment, stating, “I do not discuss such subjects,” interest remains high among several top SuperLiga teams.
