The 14th Nicosia Half Marathon was organized by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality in collaboration with the TR Athletics Federation. Held under the slogan ‘Running from heart to heart’, the event was intended to support the families of victims from a shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia that occurred on August 30. The marathon included 5, 10, and 21-kilometer races. Hakan Çoban won the men’s 21-kilometer category with a time of 1:08:55, while Hasibe Demir secured first place in the women’s 21-kilometer category with a time of 1:23:40. Awards were presented to winners across various age categories by local officials and sponsor representatives. Additional winners included Muhammed Furkan Şanlı and Derya Köse in the 10 km category, as well as Sezayi Okut and Ada Kafa in the 5 km category. Awards were presented by LTB President Mehmet Harmancı and Athletics Federation President Ferhat Sakallı. Political figures, including TDP General Chairman Zeki Çeler and UBP candidate Mehmet Aktunç, noted that the event served as a platform for social solidarity, emphasizing that proceeds would support the families of those lost in the Kyrenia shipwreck. Participants highlighted the role of sports in fostering community unity and promoting healthier lifestyles in the capital.
