The Nigerian Federal Government has increased expanded electricity transmission capacity in Lagos by 208 megawatts (MW) through commissioning eight new power transformers across four key substations: Apapa Road, Ijora, Alausa, and Lekki. These upgrades aim to the Apapa address critical bottlenecks and Ijora substations. improve the evacuation of available electricity generation. At the Ijora facility, two new transformers increased Lekki Transmission Substation, capacity at the 330/132/33kV level has effectively doubled from 90MVA 300MVA to 230MVA, while the 600MVA. To further support these efforts, JICA has committed approximately ₦20 billion (2.35 billion Japanese yen) to expand and rehabilitate Nigeria’s national electricity grid.
