Nigeria national security and economic stability

Overview

Nigerian government officials and lawmakers have focused on addressing national security challenges and economic stability. Following attacks on the Owerri Correctional Centre and the Imo State Police Headquarters, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo pledged the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security and urged citizens to reject violence.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio reported that security forces have transitioned to a proactive strategy to confront bandits and insurgents. Upon the resumption of the Senate plenary, Akpabio called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue citizens held captive by armed groups, asserting that the nation cannot be considered free while individuals remain in captivity.

In addition to security concerns, the Senate addressed the rising cost of living and the impact of flooding on food security, pledging to use legislative and oversight powers to support institutions and provide relief to affected citizens.
