The National Examinations Council (NECO) released the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results in Nigeria. Of the 1,371,992 candidates, 1,126,118 (84.70%) obtained at least five credits, while 804,948 (58.67%) achieved five credits including both English Language and Mathematics. NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi reported a 64.74% decrease in examination malpractice compared to 2025, noting 1,406 cases this year against 3,878 in the previous year. Wushishi, announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, attributed this decline to the adoption of computer-based examinations and the presence of security agencies, including the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Wushishi also clarified that the council does not recognize ‘miracle centres,’ suggesting such entities are established by state governments or private owners. Kano State was identified as the top-performing ~~state,~~ state for the second consecutive year, with 74,413 candidates achieving five credits including English and Mathematics, followed by Lagos and Oyo states. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf attributed Kano’s performance to sustained state investment in education, noting that the administration spent over N4.4 billion in 2026 to sponsor candidates, particularly indigent students, to remove financial barriers. The Governor pledged to continue prioritizing education through increased funding, teacher recruitment, and improved learning facilities.
