On 22 July the committee received a three‑week extension and its scope was widened to cover the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the Universal Basic Education Commission, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and the National School Infrastructure Programme. Lawmakers aim to audit disbursements, operational bottlenecks and accountability structures across these bodies.

A week later, on 31 July, the Senate Ad‑hoc Committee formally opened its probe, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa testified that most reviewed payments were made five to seven years earlier, with recent funds limited to the police and civil defence corps. The inquiry now also examines the Federal Ministry of Finance, following the programme’s transfer to the Ministry of Education under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The ongoing scrutiny underscores persistent concerns over financial management and the delivery of safe learning environments.
