Following the departure of Justin Madugu and his technical crew in August, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) began searching for new leadership for the Super Falcons. The coaching change was prompted by the team failing to defend its title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and subsequently missing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. On September 8, the NFF appointed former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen as the interim manager. Eguavoen is tasked with leading the team through their opening 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixtures against Comoros in October 2026. These second-round matches are scheduled for October 9 and 13 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
