The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has focused on professional standards, internal governance, and member recognition. In Niger State, the NUJ Council addressed concerns regarding content creators who pose as journalists, with Chairman Abu Nmodu warning that such non-professionals contribute to the spread of “misinformation and disinformation.” He advocated for government reliance on trained information officers rather than content creators to ensure verified reporting. Additionally, the NUJ Niger State Correspondents Chapel recognized Mohammed Baba Bussu for his induction into the Nigeria Guild of Editors. At the national level, the NUJ announced the “NUJ Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria” to honor 20 journalists and two state governors during its 71st anniversary celebrations in Abuja. Meanwhile, in In Delta State, the NUJ Council conducted elections in Asaba, resulting in the re-election of incumbent chairman Comrade Oyowe for a second term. This election marked the first participation of the Oasis Magazine Chapel since its July 2024 inauguration. Following the vote, Oasis Magazine Publisher Daniel Umukoro called for unity and inclusive leadership to prevent internal divisions. In Enugu, the NUJ Enugu Correspondents’ Chapel scheduled the grand finale of its 2026 Press Week for October 22. The event, chaired by Chief Anthony Ani, SAN, will feature Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah as the Chief Guest of Honour. The program includes a guest lecture by Minister of Works David Umahi on “Strengthening Democracy Through Responsible Journalism: 2027 Polls in Focus” and a keynote address by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede regarding the media’s role in combating corruption.
