In Oyo State, the Independent Electoral Commission extended the deadline for political parties to conduct chairmanship and councillorship primary elections to August 5, 2026, to ensure compliance for the December 2026 local government elections. At the national level, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended the deadline for political parties to upload candidate lists for the February 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections from August 8 to August 11, 2026, following appeals from various parties. In response to this extension, the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced it had completed the upload of its candidates for all elective positions, including the presidency, ahead of the original deadline. APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda stated that this early completion demonstrates the party’s organizational capacity and readiness for the 2027 electoral cycle. In preparation for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, INEC suspended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to finalize voter statistics. Following reports of hoodlums stealing original cards at collection centers in the Odo-Otin and Ife Central local government areas, the Commission noted that stolen cards cannot be used for voting and advised that voters seeking voting. INEC has made replacement cards downloadable PVCs available to affected voters, advising those seeking replacements via the downloadable option that they must print them by midnight on August 9.
