Nigerian political tensions have intensified as leaders position themselves for the 2027 general elections. Initially, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike issued demands for absolute loyalty from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, allegedly threatening to ensure the former presidential candidate is permanently retired from politics if he does not align with Wike’s leadership structure. Following these developments, Wike proposed a ‘Rainbow Coalition’ intended to support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection by bringing various parties together. The PDP has criticized the stance of the APC governors, suggesting their opposition to Wike is motivated by concerns regarding their own governance records ahead of the upcoming polls.
