On September 9, 2026, Nintendo announced the addition of the 2002 title ‘Star Fox Adventures’ to the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. During the same broadcast, the company revealed an upcoming free update for the Star Fox remake on Nintendo Switch 2, which was intended to include new Battle Mode stages and split-screen support. By September 30, 2026, Nintendo released version 1.2.0 of the Star Fox remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Velan Studios, this free update implemented the promised Battle Mode additions, including the Katina, Sector X, and Venom stages, as well as new combat items. The update also introduced local split-screen multiplayer for up to four players on a single console, which allows players to participate in online random matches as a team. While each player requires a separate controller, both Joy-Con 2 and standard Joy-Cons can be used in a horizontal grip. Further improvements included visual adjustments for boss damage, a confirmation dialog when abandoning a campaign, and various bug fixes addressing game crashes and freezing. Additionally, the Star Fox soundtrack was made available for streaming via the Nintendo Music app. Following the release, Velan Studios highlighted the remake’s features, which include a complete visual overhaul, revamped character designs, detailed cutscenes, fully voiced dialogue, and an orchestral soundtrack. Technical additions to the remake include Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and a GameChat feature. The multiplayer expansion also introduced new profile achievements and icons to be earned through campaign completion and online matchmaking.
