Nippon Steel international expansion and profit growth
Overview
Nippon Steel has reported significant shifts in its financial and operational strategy. Initially, the company raised its full-year profit forecast to 290 billion yen, driven largely by the strength of its US Steel acquisition. While domestic operations faced challenges from rising raw material costs and Middle East tensions, US Steel’s business profit outlook was increased by 80 billion yen due to rising hot-rolled coil prices and technical synergies.
Subsequently, the company announced a 900 million euro investment in Slovakia aimed at expanding low-carbon steel production. Through its subsidiary, U. S. Steel Kosice, the funds will support the construction of a new air separation plant and an electric arc furnace. This project is set to receive up to 350 million euros in support from the European Union’s Modernization Fund.
