Nissan has commenced the global rollout of its Frontier Pro pickup truck, a model designed, developed, and manufactured in China via the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture with Dongfeng for international export. Sales are scheduled to begin in Mexico in October 2026, followed by the Philippines in November 2026. The rollout is expected to expand to the Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia by the end of 2026. In certain markets, the vehicle will be marketed under the established Navara nameplate. Specifically, the Navara Pro PHEV—a plug-in hybrid dual-cab ute—will leverage the brand equity of the Navara name, particularly in regions like Australia where the nameplate has significant history. While the new model is mechanically unrelated to the existing turbo-diesel Navara, it is built on the Dongfeng Z9 platform. The PHEV variant combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 300kW and 800Nm of torque, alongside Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. Recent developments include the reveal of a test mule for the Navara Pro PHEV, which is expected to arrive in New Zealand by 2027. The vehicle features an eight-speed automatic transmission, a configuration requested by the Australian team to enhance towing and load capacity.
