The city of Niterói is expanding its municipal security infrastructure and personnel. Initially, the Niterói Municipal Guard began training 87 new agents to increase its force from 829 toward a goal of 1,000 members. Mayor Rodrigo Neves indicated this expansion includes investments in technology, infrastructure, and a new Municipal Civil Guard Training Center. As the expansion progressed, the city implemented a decentralization plan to establish new headquarters in the city center and the Oceanic Region. The goal remains to reach 1,000 agents to improve community proximity and integration with Military and Civil police. Alongside these structural changes, regional security efforts have seen significant tactical activity, with the 12th Military Police Battalion seizing 39 rifles between January 1 and September 17, 2026. Recent operations by the Niterói Municipal Guard (GCM) include the apprehension of a robbery suspect in the Charitas region. Following an armed robbery on Avenida Visconde do Rio Branco, night preventive patrol teams conducted a tactical search and located suspects near the Charitas-Cafubá Tunnel. One individual was detained and taken to the 79th DP in Icaraí, where a stolen cell phone was recovered. Building on previous expansion goals, the administration has confirmed plans to grow the force from 915 to 1,000 agents. The new training center is being prepared to offer specialized courses in areas such as traffic, school patrolling, and conflict mediation.
