To mark the 125th anniversary of the awards, the Nobel Foundation has increased the monetary value of its international prizes to 12 million Swedish kronor per category, up from 11 million kronor in 2025. This adjustment, which is approximately 1.21 to 1.22 million US dollars, dollars or roughly 1.06 million euros, represents the highest nominal value in the history of the prizes. Executive Director Hanna Stjärne stated that the increase is intended to “maintain the real value of the prize over time and support its long-term significance,” ensuring the award maintains its worth against global economic fluctuations. The foundation manages the fund established by Alfred Nobel through investments in global stock markets. If a single discipline has multiple winners, the total amount will be shared among them. The 2026 laureates are scheduled to be announced between October 5 and October 12. The sequence begins with Physiology or Medicine on October 5, followed by Physics on October 6, Chemistry on October 7, Literature on October 8, Peace on October 9, and Economic Sciences on October 12. Each laureate will receive a Nobel medal, a diploma, and the monetary award. While most announcements take place in Stockholm, the Nobel Peace Prize is traditionally awarded in Oslo. Formal award ceremonies are expected to be held in early December.
