North Macedonia continues its 2026 programme of agricultural support and infrastructure expansion. While the government previously cleared farmer payment backlogs, recent developments show a shift toward energy security and economic stabilization. In mid-August, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski reported July inflation at 2.3%, noting it was significantly lower than the EU average. By August, the annual inflation rate was recorded at 2.6%, marking the second consecutive month below the eurozone average of 3.3% and a sharp decline from the 16.8% seen in August 2022. While officials cite this as a sign of economic stabilization, opposition parties like LSDM have criticized the administration, arguing the reported figures do not reflect the actual rising cost of living. Infrastructure projects are intensifying, with construction active at over 1,200 sites, including the Blace–Skopje highway and the Kikacha–Kichevo segment. Regarding energy, the VMRO-DPMNE administration is prioritizing domestic electricity production. Prime Minister Mickoski recently announced the development of a new methodology to stabilize electricity prices for households, aiming to maintain or reduce current rates to protect living standards. Mickoski noted that while the country’s supply remains stable, hydroelectric reservoirs are currently at nearly 50% capacity due to low water levels across Europe. Production capacities are being prepared for the heating season, expected to begin in early November. Economic growth has shown a positive trajectory, with a growth rate of approximately 4.3% in the last quarter and ten consecutive quarters of growth above 3%.
