Since early 2026 the Macedonian government has paid more than 15 billion denars in direct farm subsidies, boosting output, trade surplus and livestock support while modernising equipment with €34 million in contracts. An €80 million KfW loan and World Bank financing underpin new irrigation schemes, raising irrigated land from 14 000 to about 17 700 ha and filling reservoirs to over 70 % of capacity—a ten‑fold increase from a year earlier. The digital land‑management system now covers roughly 6 000 ha of state land, and water‑sector funding of 132 million denars supports dam and distribution projects. Pumpkin production rose from 16 to 26 million kg, with prices more than doubling, and grape harvests are set to increase further. Fuel prices remain among the lowest in Europe, with diesel at about 100 denars per litre. On 26 July 2026 Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the government is closely monitoring international oil markets, where crude prices have steadied around $85‑86 per barrel. Fuel taxes are reviewed every two weeks; an analysis due 31 July will inform a larger reduction in retail diesel and gasoline prices expected at the start of August. Mickoski emphasized that the Regulatory Commission for Energy had raised retail fuel prices by an average of 4.55 % and that further adjustments to excise duties or VAT could follow the July‑31 assessment. He urged citizens to remain calm as the authorities monitor market movements. Later on 26 July 2026 Mickoski indicated that a more substantial cut in diesel and gasoline prices is likely to be announced next week.
