Afrim Gashi, President of the Assembly of North Macedonia, has engaged in high-level discussions regarding social and democratic policy. In early September, Gashi met with Turkey’s Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Ozdemir Göktaş, to discuss bilateral cooperation on social services and family protection. The dialogue focused on exchanging best practices for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities. Later in the month, On September 22, Gashi met with Zeina Hilal Hilal, Director of the Gender and Youth Program at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) (IPU), to further address gender equality and youth participation. This meeting specifically highlighted the need engagement. The discussions centered on upcoming initiatives to advance gender parity and combat digital violence against women in politics. Both parties highlighted the challenges women and discrimination youth face in digital spaces, including discrimination, and emphasized the need for stronger institutional protection mechanisms and the dismantling of gender stereotypes to ensure women and young people have equal opportunities in political and democratic processes.
