The English football club Northampton Town has completed a takeover by a consortium led by Sports Alpha Capital (SAC), a British-Brazilian investment group. The group includes former Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, who will join the club’s board of directors, and London-based Gemcorp Capital. Under the finalized agreement, SAC has acquired a 70% ownership stake in Northampton Town Ventures Limited, the entity holding the majority shares of the club. The previous owners—David Bower, Nigel Le Quesne, and Kelvin Thomas—will retain the remaining 30%. The takeover follows regulatory approvals from the English Football League (EFL) and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). The investment is intended to provide operational stability and is expected to fully resolve the club’s existing debts, which followed reported losses of approximately £3 million. SAC, led by founders Joao Xavier and Tim Chamberlain, has stated it intends to pursue ambitious plans for the League Two club while prioritizing sustainability and community connection. This transition occurs during a difficult sporting period for the club, following a relegation from League One and a 22nd-place standing in League Two. Management has highlighted that the club enters this new era in a debt-free position.
