Nothing has officially begun the staggered rollout of Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, starting with the Nothing Phone (3) on October 12, 2026. This major software overhaul includes over 80 improvements, such as a redesigned launcher, the Geist typeface, a redesigned settings interface, and a translucent frosted glass theme. New lock screen options include the ‘Micrographics’ clock, which displays the date, time, weather, and upcoming meetings. The home screen features transparent widgets and an adaptive color system that adjusts based on the user’s wallpaper. Functional updates feature separate panels for quick settings and notifications, improved touch responsiveness, and new widgets like ‘Collector’ and ‘Away Time’. Enhanced Essential AI tools, such as faster transcription via ‘Essential Voice’ and the ‘Essential Apps Builder’—which allows users to create apps via text descriptions—are also part of the update. The update has transitioned to a stable version, featuring a dedicated Glyph application for controlling device lights and a tricolor status bar indicator for sensitive permissions. As of late October, the stable version is also being released to the Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, Phone (4a), and Phone (4a) Pro, arriving slightly ahead of the original schedule. These models also benefit from camera enhancements like a dual-view video mode that records using the front and rear cameras simultaneously, as well as Android 17 features such as extended dark theme and improved HDR controls. The rollout schedule for remaining models is as follows: • Mid-November: Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus. • Late December: Phone (3a) Lite. • Mid-January 2027: Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro. Older models, including the Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1, will not receive the update.
