The City of Nova Iguaçu, in partnership with the company Light, launched ‘Arena de Lazer Light’, a weekly community initiative on Via Light. The program transforms a section of the avenue between Oscar Soares and Coronel Francisco Soares streets into a leisure space every Sunday from 6:00 to 14:00. Planned activities include sports, culture, and wellness such as running, dance, functional training, a skate park, and a ‘gamer arena’. The initiative also integrates public health and social services, including immunizations, rapid testing, and animal protection services. Additionally, the program features a local producers’ market to support the community. Following the launch on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the inaugural day saw hundreds of participants engaging in various activities, including walking groups and inflatable recreation. Mayor Dudu Reina noted that the area serves as a vital community hub for social interaction, exercise, and family leisure. A second edition of the program was held on Sunday, October 11, featuring special programming to celebrate Children's Day. This edition expanded its offerings to include environmental education initiatives, seedling donations, free book distributions, and an entrepreneurship fair. The event also incorporated the ‘Elas Por Elas’ race, organized by the Nova Iguaçu Women's Secretariat as part of the ‘Outubro Rosa’ breast cancer awareness campaign.
