Created by mathematics teacher Priscila Negros, the initiative utilizes a fictitious currency called ‘BN’ to teach economic concepts such as planning, saving, and conscious consumption.

Students earn ‘BN’ by demonstrating positive behaviors, including maintaining high grades, assisting peers, and ensuring good attendance. Conversely, disruptive behavior or unjustified absences can result in the loss of the currency. Participants can spend their accumulated ‘BN’ at a school market for items like stationery, games, and technology, or they can choose to ‘invest’ the currency for the possibility of doubling its value by the end of a bimester.

Municipal Secretary of Education Virgínia Rocha stated that the project is designed to foster autonomy and responsibility in students, helping them connect curriculum content to real-world decision-making.
