Novo Nordisk CagriSema clinical trial results

Overview

Novo Nordisk has released findings from Phase 3 clinical trials regarding its experimental medication, CagriSema, which combines cagrilintide and semaglutide to treat diabetes and obesity.

Initial results from the Phase 3 REIMAGINE 5 study involving adults with type 2 diabetes showed that patients lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight over 60 weeks. This outperformed the 9.1% weight loss observed in patients treated with 5 mg of tirzepatide, though researchers noted it did not necessarily exceed the results of higher doses of Mounjaro.

Subsequent post-trial analysis from the Phase 3 REDEFINE 1 trial, which included approximately 2,300 women, reported an average body weight reduction of 25% for those receiving a 2.4 mg combination of the drugs. Further analysis by reproductive stage indicated weight loss estimates of 26.7% for premenopausal women, 24.8% for perimenopausal women, and 23.1% for postmenopausal women. The medication also demonstrated links to reduced waist circumference across all studied groups.
