NTT Docomo Business has initiated a series of expansions to its AI and IoT infrastructure services in Japan. On September 30, 2026, the company is scheduled to launch ‘GPUaaS’ (GPU as a Service), a cloud-based platform providing access to high-performance NVIDIA GPUs. The service is designed to support AI development from proof-of-concept stages to full-scale production, featuring an integrated controller for resource management and support for ‘Sovereign AI’ to ensure data remains within Japan. Building on this, the company announced updates to its ‘docomo business SIGN’ Network as a Service (NaaS) platform. In December 2026, an ‘Advanced’ service menu will introduce a sovereign AI environment by linking Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) servers with the GPUaaS service to facilitate secure, physical AI applications. This setup aims to allow data collection, storage, and AI inference to be completed entirely within the NTT Docomo Business network to address security and privacy concerns for applications such as autonomous driving. Additionally, a ‘Pro’ service menu is expected to launch in March 2027, targeting large-scale IoT operations with support for next-generation eSIM standards (SGP.32) and global deployment capabilities. To promote these technological advancements, the company is launching an the ‘AX for People’ television commercial campaign on October 10, 2026. The Featuring actors Takako Matsu and Sadao Abe, the campaign focuses on the concept of ‘Physical AI’ and its potential to address labor shortages and reduce physical burdens in industries like logistics. Alongside the TV spots, a web campaign titled ‘Don’t Fail at Corporate Smartphones’ will be released. At the NTT docomo Business Forum’26, Executive Officer Takushi Morinobu outlined a roadmap for transitioning from digital transformation (DX) to an era of AI Transformation (AX). To overcome obstacles like fragmented data, the company is focusing on five key areas: strategy, infrastructure, data, people, and processes. This includes implementing Enterprise Architecture (EA) and establishing a ‘Single Source of Truth’ (SSOT) to ensure data reliability, with the goal of reaching a state by 2030 where humans effectively control AI to maximize business value.
