In August 2026, Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas inaugurated a solar photovoltaic system at the Nuevo Laredo Cultural Center. She also highlighted improvements in public safety, claiming the city has gone nearly three years without certain types of high-risk incidents due to intergovernmental coordination. Regarding her political future, Canturosas Villarreal stated she is focused on her current term but did not rule out running for office in 2028, remarking, ‘Let the future decide.’
