The city of Vigo prepared for the 26th O Marisquiño summer festival, scheduled for 6–9 August 2026. Initial announcements highlighted the transformation of the Samil district with temporary BMX and skate‑park facilities, a new mobility plan that increased bus frequencies and added shuttle routes, and guidance for drivers to use nearby parking areas. A week later, details of the festival’s programme were released. Organisers unveiled an urban downhill mountain‑bike race from O Castro to A Laxe, described by the mayor as “a kilometre of hell”. The event expected over 150,000 spectators and 1,500 athletes from more than thirty countries, and also featured skate, BMX, freestyle motocross, 3×3 basketball, breaking, adapted‑sport competitions, around 60 musical acts, food trucks, and the Iberian final of the DMC DJ championship. Leading up to the event, an official festival shop opened in the A Laxe shopping centre to provide merchandise and information. During the festival, the Samil court hosted a 3x3 basketball competition featuring a prominent figure from Spanish basketball to promote the sport. The programming also included the DMC Iberia finals, an international turntablism competition where DJs from Spain and Portugal competed for the chance to represent their countries at the DMC World Finals in London.
