In mid‑July 2026, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun extended a one‑day‑off‑duty work palliative and introduced a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for eligible public and civil servants in Ogun State, covering July through September. A few weeks later, the governor approved additional compensation for doctors in the state’s public health sector, aligning the Professional Allowance Table (PAT) with the federal pay structure. On 30 July, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) issued a deadline of 8:00 a.m. on 10 August 2026 for the federal government to settle salary, professional‑allowance and promotion arrears, warning of a total strike. On 10 August, NARD suspended its planned nationwide industrial action following high-level discussions with officials, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, stating that meetings produced “concrete agreements” regarding salaries and allowances. The suspension was set to last until 31 August, pending a review of implementation. Concurrently, medical lecturers under the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) in Benue State began an indefinite strike. These lecturers are demanding the payment of 25 months of accrued arrears under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), pension remittances, and promotion arrears. On 26 August, NAMDA announced a three-day warning strike scheduled to begin on 1 September 2026, affecting medical schools nationwide. Acting National Secretary-General Prof. Aniekan Peter stated the action responds to the federal government’s failure to conclude negotiations regarding conditions of service and the lack of formal documentation for payments under the CONMESS structure.
