The Tampa Bay Rays have advanced to the 2026 World Series after defeating the Cleveland Guardians 4-2 in the American League Championship Series (ALCS). The Rays secured the series in Game 6 with a 7-3 victory at Tropicana Field, marking the third American League pennant in franchise history. In the deciding game, Freddy Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings and was named the ALCS MVP. Offensive power was provided by Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz via home runs. Caminero celebrated his first career postseason home run with a gesture mimicking former Rays player Randy Arozarena, who was in the stands to support the team. Caminero’s seventh-inning home run provided a critical cushion, while Díaz’s eighth-inning blast effectively sealed the win. The Rays' path to the championship included a sweep of the New York Yankees in the ALDS. However, the team will be without pitching ace Shane McClanahan for the World Series; the Rays opted to shut him down for the remainder of the season due to forearm fatigue and his history of significant arm injuries. The Rays will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series, scheduled to begin on Friday, October 23, in Milwaukee. This matchup is notable as it features two teams seeking their first-ever World Series title, a rarity not seen in the MLB since 1980. The series has also drawn attention to debates regarding a potential MLB salary cap, as both finalists are considered small-market teams with relatively low payrolls. The Guardians, facing a 78-year World Series drought, conclude their postseason following the loss. The World Series matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays is set to take place at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
