In late June 2026, Vinton County deputies rescued 16 children from a 12-by-12-foot room in Hamden, Ohio, where they had lived for about four years in filth, human waste, and insects. The children, aged 18 months to 18 years, required extensive medical care; seven were hospitalized, two were air-lifted to trauma centers, and all entered state foster care. The four adults originally arrested—Gary Siders Sr., Gary Jr., Elizabeth Siders, and Christina Lynn Siders—were charged with second-degree felony child endangerment. Legal proceedings have expanded significantly as the investigation into sexual abuse, which reportedly began in late 2023, led to the discovery of the children’s living conditions. Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders have been indicted on charges including sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor related to an incident in 2022. Two additional men have also been indicted: Brandon Henderson Sr., the uncle of the children, faces 21 counts of child endangerment, and Josh Saunders faces three counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition. In September 2026, Elizabeth and Gary Siders II faced additional allegations involving a 17th child, aged between 13 and 16, who lived with the family for approximately nine months in 2022. This child accused Gary Siders II of abuse while he was acting ‘in loco parentis’. On September 16, Elizabeth Siders pleaded not guilty to felony charges of sexual battery and unlawful sexual contact with a minor, as well as multiple counts of child endangerment. Her legal team has requested a mental competency hearing. Following this new indictment, a judge set an additional $250,000 bail, bringing her total bail to $550,000. ~~Meanwhile, Gary Siders Sr. will not stand trial after a psychiatrist determined he is not competent and cannot be restored to competency through treatment.~~ By October 2026, legal developments continued for other family members.
