Ole Miss entered a series of high-stakes SEC matchups during the 2026 season. In mid-October, the Rebels were favored by 5.5 points in a top-25 contest against Missouri, a game marked by the return of former Ole Miss players to Oxford. This group included senior quarterback Austin Simmons, wide receiver Cayden Lee, and cornerback Chris Graves Jr., with Simmons previously serving as the Rebels’ starter before an ankle injury. By late October, the focus shifted to a matchup against the No. 19 Texas Longhorns. Ahead of that game, betting markets showed a significant shift, moving from Texas being a 9.5-point favorite to Ole Miss being favored by 3.5 points. As the No. 7 ranked Rebels prepared to travel to Austin, they held a 5-1 record. In the Week 8 matchup, the No. 19 Texas Longhorns defeated the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels 34-27. After Texas built an early 24-3 lead, the Rebels managed to tie the game at 24-24 in the second half. Texas eventually reclaimed the lead via a one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Arch Manning on a fake handoff in the fourth quarter. Manning finished with 212 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing scores. Running back Raleek Brown also contributed significantly with 157 rushing yards. The contest was also marked by multiple turnovers and significant injury setbacks for the Longhorns, including the loss of wide receiver Cam Coleman and left tackle Trevor Goosby. The game concluded when Texas defensive back Jelani McDonald intercepted a last-second Hail Mary attempt from Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Following the loss, Ole Miss dropped to No. 12 in the AP Top 25, while Texas rose to No. 11.
