Pop artists Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan released a remix of Rodrigo’s song ‘expectations’ on October 15 15, 2026, via Interscope Records. The track, originally from Rodrigo’s third studio album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,’ serves as Rodrigo’s first official remix and Roan’s first guest feature on another artist's recording. The collaboration follows a long-standing professional relationship, as Roan has previously provided backing vocals on Rodrigo’s tracks and served as an opening act on her tours. Produced by Dan ~~Nigro,~~ Nigro and co-written with Amy Allen, the remix includes a new verse written by Roan. In an interview with Apple Music, Roan stated her intention was to ‘make things a little gay,’ adding a queer perspective to the song's themes of romantic ~~disappointment by incorporating experiences with female partners.~~ disappointment. In a subsequent interview with Zane Lowe, Rodrigo described the track as a ‘mantra song’ designed to be catchy and empowering, noting that Roan’s songwriting style and attitude served as ~~inspiration during the recording process.~~ inspiration. The release was accompanied by a music video directed by Bardia Zeinali, titled ‘The Big Expectations Show.’ The video utilizes a campy 1970s and 1980s game show aesthetic featuring a ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ and a cameo by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne as an eccentric host named Johnny Johnson. Following the video's release, viewers on TikTok and X speculated that portions of the animation were AI-generated due to distorted limbs and hands. The production team clarified that the visuals were hand-drawn using a combination of 2D and 3D techniques, noting that the grainy aesthetic was achieved by running the animation through analogue television screens. The launch coincided with ~~philanthropic activities, including~~ Rodrigo’s ~~Daisy Chain Fields festival~~ 2026 tour schedule and ~~Roan’s upcoming charity event, The Super Graphic Spectacular.~~ various philanthropic activities.
