The Greek government has officially approved the redevelopment project for the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. Following high-level discussions between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Olympiacos FC President Evangelos Marinakis, the plan has been included in a multi-law bill for public consultation, which is scheduled to run until October 24. The privately funded renovation, expected to exceed 250 million euros, aims to transform the current 33,500-seat venue into a modern multi-purpose facility with a capacity of over 52,000 to 53,000 spectators. The architectural design features four levels, a new lightweight roof, and a total height exceeding 52 meters. To facilitate this, the legislative framework includes new regulations regarding building height and construction coefficients, as well as the provision of at least 1,800 parking spaces. The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy has released the specific multi-bill for this consultation. Technical provisions in the proposed framework include new height limits for the western side and the roof, a 60% coverage limit, and a requirement that at least 65% of the building coefficient be dedicated to purely athletic uses. Beyond its primary use for sports, the stadium is intended to serve as a hub for cultural and athletic events to stimulate year-round economic activity in Piraeus. During the renovation period, Olympiacos is expected to play its home matches at the Olympic Stadium (OAKA).
