Olympique Lyonnais Women's Champions League campaign

Overview

Olympique Lyonnais enters the UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase in strong form. In domestic play, players such as Jule Brand, Melchie Dumornay, and Ada Hegerberg have contributed to a high-scoring start in the Première Ligue.

Following a dominant 8-0 victory against Servette, highlighted by a hat-trick from Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Lyon was scheduled to face Chelsea. This matchup featured significant personal connections, as Chelsea is led by former Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor and includes several former Lyon players such as Lucy Bronze, Kadeisha Buchanan, Ellie Carpenter, and Melvine Malard.

In their recent tactical matchup during the second matchday of the Champions League, OL Lyonnes and Chelsea played to a 0-0 draw. While Lyon controlled much of the possession, Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton made a decisive late save to preserve the point. Lyon also saw a goal by Salma Paralluelo ruled out by VAR.

Other notable results from the Champions League matchday included FC Bayern München securing a 3-0 victory against Benfica Lissabon, with goals from Klara Bühl, Pernille Harder, and Franziska Kett. Additionally, Paris FC staged a dramatic comeback against Arsenal; after trailing 2-0 following goals from Alessia Russo and Georgia Stanway, the hosts secured a 2-2 draw via a Clara Mateo goal and a late 87th-minute penalty by Maeline Mendy following a handball by Leah Williamson. FC Barcelona also defeated AS Roma 6-0, led by multiple goals from Caroline Graham Hansen and Claudia Pina, placing Barcelona at the top of the standings.
