OM System initially teased a new camera launch for September 9, with speculation suggesting a device within the PEN series featuring a rangefinder-style silhouette and an integrated electronic viewfinder (EVF). On September 9, OM Digital Solutions officially announced the OM System PEN, the first camera in the historic PEN series to be released under the OM SYSTEM brand. This compact Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera features a retro-inspired, rangefinder-style design aimed at beginners and enthusiasts for travel and everyday photography. Technical specifications include a 20.4-megapixel Live MOS sensor and a TruePic IX image processing engine. The model introduces several firsts for the PEN series, specifically a 2.36 million-dot EVF and IPX1-rated dust and splash resistance. Stabilization is provided by 5-axis in-body image stabilization offering up to 5.5 stops of compensation. Creative functionality is enhanced by a dedicated ‘CP’ button for computational photography modes—including high-resolution shots, HDR, and focus stacking—and a ‘Profile Control’ switch for color and monochrome adjustments. The camera also utilizes AI-based subject detection for humans and animals. The OM System PEN is scheduled for a late October 2026 launch, with body-only pricing starting at approximately $999/€999 or 150,000 yen. Following the announcement, evaluations of the device noted that while it offers a stylish and affordable option, it lacks high-end video specifications such as 10-bit video and 4K 60p. Regarding future product expansions, Nishihara of OM Digital Solutions stated in an interview that the company is not currently planning to expand the PEN series into different equipment classes. Instead, the company intends to monitor market feedback and sales performance of the current PEN model before making further decisions, noting they will evaluate consumer demand for a high-end successor to the PEN-F alongside the reception of this new entry-level model.
