Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), remains involved in significant legal and security disputes in Nigeria. In Abuja, the Department of State Services (DSS) has petitioned the Federal High Court to set aside a subpoena issued by Sowore. The agency contends that the attempt to compel its lead counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, to testify is a “bad-faith attempt to delay Sowore’s trial for allegedly cyberbullying President Bola Tinubu.” The DSS argues the subpoena violates lawyer-client privilege and constitutes an abuse of court process. Justice Mohammed Garba Umar has scheduled a ruling on this matter for November 9, 2026. Regarding the earlier incident in Ado-Ekiti, Sowore has released video footage of the restaurant attack, which he describes as a “coordinated assassination attempt.” He maintains that the assault was politically motivated and supported by the DSS and officials close to the presidency. Sowore further alleges a cover-up, claiming that CCTV footage from the scene was erased after being taken by police and DSS operatives. While the Ekiti Police Command previously stated that Sowore had not notified security of his movements, legal expert Femi Falana has called for the immediate arrest of the attackers, describing them as “well-known individuals.” Following the incident, Sowore met with Assistant Inspector-General of Police Alonyenu Francis at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to demand the arrest of ten individuals he accuses of attacking his team with machetes. Sowore submitted a petition to the Inspector-General naming Asefon, a Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, alleging the adviser fled Ekiti State for Abuja following the attack. AIG Francis stated that a special team from Abuja has been dispatched to Ekiti to investigate. Additionally, the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI) condemned the violence, calling for a transparent investigation free from political interference.
