The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have conducted various traffic enforcement operations and issued charges related to road safety. During the Thanksgiving long weekend, the OPP issued safety warnings and arrested two motorists in Northumberland for operating vehicles while impaired by alcohol and drugs. These incidents resulted in administrative driver’s licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments. The police also reminded the public to follow the ‘Move Over law’ to protect first responders. In subsequent enforcement actions, the OPP charged four motorists in Collingwood with impaired driving and careless driving following separate investigations and a single-vehicle collision. Additionally, an arrest was made on Highway 11 involving a driver operating a vehicle with an obstructed windshield, facing multiple charges including dangerous operation and driving while suspended. Recent enforcement operations have resulted in further arrests for impaired driving, dangerous operation, and stunt driving. In Northumberland, two drivers, Alim Baytekin and Christopher Watson, were apprehended following high-speed stops; Baytekin was charged with impaired operation and stunt driving after being clocked at 141 km/h, while Watson faces similar charges after traveling 161 km/h on Highway 401. In Essex County, officers arrested five drivers for impaired driving within an eight-hour window across Leamington, Windsor, and Tecumseh, with charges including open liquor containers and driving with an improperly secured child passenger. Other recent actions include the arrest of Roxanne Boisvert in Huntsville for operating a vehicle with an open hood obstructing the windshield, and John Hamel in Bruce Mines, who was charged with impaired operation and driving without insurance.
