OpenAI has begun structuring its GPT-Rosalind series into a specialized product line for the life sciences sector. Following the introduction of pricing for the gpt-rosalind-discovery and gpt-rosalind-research models, the company has expanded its reach through the Rosalind Academic Plan. This academic program provides eligible US university laboratories with access to specialized biological research AI tools, including up to 30 Business Standard seats for 12 months. To support fields such as drug discovery and translational medicine, the models are designed to synthesize scientific literature and plan experiments. To address privacy concerns, OpenAI stated that research data from these academic accounts will not be used to train its models by default. On October 30, 2026, OpenAI released GPT-Rosalind-6, a frontier reasoning system for biology and drug discovery. Available exclusively to vetted scientists, research institutes, companies, and government partners, the model utilizes existing GPT-6 Astra weights with modified deployment boundaries and safety protocols rather than additional training. While the model achieved a 100 percent success rate on benign biological questions, OpenAI noted a decrease in refusal rates for sensitive biosafety queries, dropping to 79.0 percent from 99.8 percent in the base model. Consequently, OpenAI has classified the system as high risk in biology and chemistry, and critical in cybersecurity.
