The Port of Santos has experienced two distinct operational disruptions. On October 29, 2026, navigation in parts of the port channel was partially suspended after a crane on a barge severed four power cables from the Itatinga Hydroelectric Plant transmission line. The Santos Port Authority reported that the accident affected approximately 30% of operations, though electricity supply remained stable. The channel was fully reopened by the following afternoon after the cables were removed. On November 3, 2026, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) ordered a partial shutdown of the Brasil Terminal Portuário S.A. (BTP). This measure followed a routine inspection that identified sanitary irregularities. The suspension specifically impacts the receipt and storage of medicines, pharmaceutical items, and temperature-sensitive medical supplies. Anvisa noted the terminal lacked dedicated areas for products with suspected quality issues and failed to provide separate, restricted-access areas for substances subject to special control. The interdiction aims to prevent risks to the safety and efficacy of medical products until the company regularizes its operations according to RDC No. 938/2024 and Ordinance No. 344/1998. BTP stated that it has promptly addressed Anvisa’s guidance and that the terminal is operating normally.
