In August 2026, ADID Timiș and Timișoara City Hall launched a pilot project to convert organic waste from nine local markets into green energy and fertilizer. Using anaerobic digestion technology at a station in Pișchia, the initiative transforms vegetable and food waste into biogas for electricity and thermal energy, alongside organic fertilizer for agriculture. Following the launch, the waste management company RETIM issued specific guidelines for residents in Timiș Zone 0 and Zone 1 to ensure proper waste separation. These protocols clarify the use of green containers for glass, yellow and blue containers for plastics, metals, and paper, and black containers for non-recyclable residual waste.
