Orthodox Christian celebrations of Saint Demetrios

Overview

Orthodox Christian communities across several countries observed religious feasts dedicated to Saint Demetrios. In Greece, major celebrations occurred in Thessaloniki, coinciding with the 114th anniversary of the city’s liberation, with attendance from high-ranking officials. Other Greek regions, such as Aetoloacarnania, Nafpaktos, Messinia, and Agio Dimétrio, also held liturgical services and processions.

In Bulgaria, the day involved commemorations of Saint Demetrios and Saint Nestor, while in Romania, Saint Demetrios the New was honored as the patron of Bucharest.

Further observances included a Panegyrical Hierarchical Vespers in Ptolemaida, Greece, at the Holy Church of Agia Skepi, and an Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in Alexandria, Egypt, at the Holy Community Church of Saint George Kaniskereio. The service in Alexandria, held under the blessing of Patriarch Theodore II, featured a procession of the icon of Saint Demetrios.
