Osaka City Museum of Natural History activities

The Osaka City Museum of Natural History has implemented various administrative and educational initiatives for the 2026 period.

In August, the museum released updated guidelines for organized group visits, including schools and kindergartens, detailing reservation procedures via telephone or online applications. While general visitors may enter without a reservation, organized groups must follow specific booking procedures. Preliminary inspections do not require a reservation and can be conducted during regular opening hours, though specific briefing sessions for groups are scheduled during peak periods in August.

Following these administrative updates, the museum announced a collaborative science mystery-solving event with Juken Kenkyusha scheduled for September 12. This experiential learning program aims to engage elementary school students and guardians through the museum’s permanent exhibitions, offering commemorative gifts and lottery prizes for participants.

Looking ahead to November, the museum announced the ‘Osaka Natural History Festival 2026’, scheduled for November 14 and 15. This cultural festival will feature over 100 organizations, including nature conservation groups, museums, and corporate sponsors. Activities will include exhibition booths, nature-themed workshops, and the sale of nature-inspired works. The event will involve a strong collaboration with the adjacent Nagai Botanical Garden, offering expanded programming such as lectures, symposiums, and nature observation sessions. Additionally, a specialized exhibition and sale of binoculars and telescopes from various manufacturers will be available to the public.
