The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSBiH) scheduled a major military exercise titled ‘TRENUTNI ODGOVOR 26’ (Immediate Response 26) to take place from October 19 to 23, 2026, at the Manjača training ground. Coordinated by Brigadier General Jasmin Čajić and supported by NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples, the drill involves over 1,200 personnel. The exercise aims to verify and improve the operational capabilities, training, and equipment of declared OSBiH units in accordance with NATO standards. The program utilizes computer-based simulations via the JCATS system and a field training exercise involving opposing forces. Military assets deployed include M113 A1 armored personnel carriers, medical vehicles, and helicopters from the OSBiH Air Force and Air Defense Brigade. The evaluation focuses on key areas such as preparation, planning, execution, sustainability, command, control, force protection, and information flow. As the exercise date approaches, the participant breakdown is specified as 881 members of declared OSBiH units and 330 personnel from the OSBiH directorate and NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples. The evaluation process follows the NATO OCC E&F concept. On October 19, 2026, the exercise officially commenced at the Manjača training ground. Described as the largest and most complex military exercise conducted by the organization in 2026, the drill focuses on a NATO re-assessment (re-NEL 2) of specific units. These include a light infantry battalion group, a military police platoon, and an unexploded ordnance (EOD) removal platoon. NATO Allied Joint Force Command Naples teams are conducting the evaluation, led by chief monitoring officer Colonel Robert Marcijan. Brigadier General Jasmin Čajić stated that the participating units are prepared to meet “strict international criteria and NATO standards.” By October 21, 2026, Brigadier General James C. Fowler, Commander of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the OSBiH during the exercise.
