Oswaldo Cabrera transition to Cincinnati Reds

Overview

Utility player Oswaldo Cabrera moved from the New York Yankees to the Cincinnati Reds in September 2026 after being claimed off waivers. The move followed the Yankees' decision to designate him for assignment to accommodate Clarke Schmidt on their 40-man roster.

Following his arrival via waivers, the Reds signed Cabrera to a one-year Major League contract to avoid salary arbitration. The agreement includes a $1 million guaranteed salary and up to $200,000 in performance-based bonuses linked to plate appearances. A switch-hitter noted for his defensive versatility, Cabrera has played multiple positions including third base and various outfield spots.
